Regional Purchasing Specialist

Location:  USA, Sparta MI

Function:  Procurement & Logistics

The Regional Procurement Specialist, North America is responsible for managing North American regional spend for items such as Raw Materials (e.g., Solvents, Natural Rubber, Polypropylene Resin, Adhesives, etc.), Third Party Products, supporting R&D Product Development Projects, and/or Indirect Services, Goods, and Materials. The position is responsible to manage the spend blocks with objectives in the areas of cost, time and legal requirements. As the technical specification is a critical component in determining the product cost and the level of supply safety in serial production, the Regional Procurement Specialist is responsible to challenge the technical specification as appropriate and is very involved in the supplier selection process.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop & maintain procurement strategy for assigned categories for tesa tape North America (ttNA)
  • Manage existing supply base to control / reduce the cost level for tesa
  • Identify and qualify North American suppliers for North America (NA), Europe and Asia
  • Establish procurement contracts as needed for strategic suppliers
  • Provide material cost forecast for identified spend
  • Support further development of tesa tape corporate procurement standards, tools and methods in ttNA
  • Close coordination with tPN Global Category, Supplier Managers as well as Bus and Regional Headquarter groups
  • Marketing, R&D and Supply Chain; tesa Plant Sparta (tPSp) Management Team & Plant Procurement; and Regional tPN / Plant Procurement / Supply Chain in Germany / Italy / China as needed
  • Procurement markets for North America fall into four primary categories:

Indirect procurement:
  • Items such as Machines and MRO
  • Items such as Facilities and Buildings
  • Items such as Logistics, Warehousing and other professional services
Third Party/ Direct Material procurement:
  • Third Party Products are finished products tesa tape procurement from other (tape) manufacturers
R&D collaboration:
  • Close cooperation with ttNA R&D
  • Define and execute procurement objectives in ttNA R&D projects
  • Identify and qualify NA suppliers for new tesa products with a focus on supplier innovation
Direct Materials (Serial procurement):
  • Identify, bundle and negotiate Raw Materials for ttNA serial production
  • Identification and qualification of alternative suppliers
  • Solve or escalate supply bottlenecks and supplier quality issues

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science degree required (Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Administration or relevant field) OR a minimum of 3 years of proven procurement experience in an industrial environment; Master’s degree is a plus
  • Three or more years of experience within a strategic procurement function required.  North American chemical procurement markets experience is a plus
  • Cross functional experience required
  • Tape / adhesive / chemical industry experience is a plus
  • Proven track record in developing / applying state of the art industrial procurement tools and methods
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in industrial product development processes
  • Strong planning, analysis and execution skills
  • Excellent communication skills (oral & written); fluent in English, additional language(s) may be a plus
  • Ability to effectively interact within multiple hierarchal levels
  • Intercultural / international project experience preferred
  • Proficient in Windows / Microsoft Office; experience with ERP platforms (SAP is a plus)
  • Able to travel domestically and internationally – approximately 20%
