About the role
The Market Development Engineer is responsible for identifying, validating, and developing new market and application opportunities, with a strong focus on semiconductor ecosystem, including Integrated Device Manufacturers (IDMs), Foundries, and OSATs (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test). The role combines technical application expertise, structured market analysis, and business development, and acts as a key interface between Customers, Sales, Product Management, and R&D. A core accountability is the development and formal submission of new business cases for new applications, markets, and customers.
What you will do
Market & Application Development (Semiconductor Focus)
- Identify and map out key customers, advanced packaging platforms (such as Co-Packaged Optics, CPO, etc.), and manufacturing facilities within the semiconductor supply chain.
- Analyze the semiconductor industry value chain (such as IDM capacity distribution and decision-making structure), as well as the demand for tapes in relation to manufacturing yield.
- Identify emerging application trends and customer needs (e.g., heterogeneous integration, thermal management, high-frequency/high-speed transmission, and reliability and yield optimization in advanced processes).
- Translate semiconductor industry-specific pain points into adhesive tape solutions, business cases and system-level value propositions.
Opportunity Scouting & Technical Validation
- Support structured market and application assessments including market size, growth potential, customer landscape, and competitive environment.
- Build and maintain a pipeline of new semiconductor industry-related business cases (applications, platforms, customers).
- Support feasibility studies, proof-of-concept testing, and sample validation together with Customer Solution Center and R&D.
- Validate technical fit and scalability of solutions for semiconductor industry manufacturing environments.
New Business Case Development & Submission
- Contribute to the development of new business cases for identified semiconductor industry opportunities.
- Prepare, structure, and formally submit business cases in cooperation with Sales, Product Management, and Customer Solution Center.
- Support internal alignment and clarification loops to support business case approval.
Go to Market & Commercialization Support
- Define clear value propositions for semiconductor and OSAT customers (e.g., improving process yield, reducing defect rates, and meeting stringent thermal and chemical challenges).
- Develop application roadmaps, market maps, and target customer lists.
- Work closely with the sales team to initiate pilot projects with key semiconductor manufacturers or equipment vendors.
- Support creation of application stories, technical positioning, and internal enablement materials.
Cross Functional & External Collaboration
- Closely collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Product Management, R&D, and CSC.
- Translate customer and market requirements into clear technical and commercial input for product development.
- Support definition of MVP (Minimum Viable Product) requirements for new applications.
- Share market and application insights internally through trainings, workshops, and documentation.
Market & Competitive Intelligence
- Monitor competitors, alternative materials, and substitute technologies in semiconductor-relevant applications.
- Track technology and manufacturing trends within the semiconductor ecosystem (covering technology iterations from wafer fabrication to advanced packaging).
- Represent the company at customer visits, industry exhibitions, and technical conferences.
- Other assigned related tasks and projects.
