Business Development Manager : Automotive e-Powertrain

Location:  USA, Novi MI

Function:  Sales

The Business Development Manager (BDM) – Automotive e-Powertrain will lead strategic development of e-powertrain market.  He/ She will analyse/define key market players including market potential for tesa tape North America (ttNA).  His/her time will be primarily dedicated to the e-powertrain segment throughout the value chain from OEM and Tier Suppliers. 

The BDM-Automotive e-powertrain position will lead ttNA’s commercial strategy and act as liaison at tesa SE, BU Electronics and BU Automotive for all e-powertrain customers as defined.

Responsibilities:
  • Define priorities and targets for North America in close alignment with the Automotive OEM/ OES HQ functions
  • Initiate and drive reference projects; coordinate and support activities in the market environment through solution-based selling approach
  • Increase application and product know-how in cooperation with selected local OEM/S sales force members
  • Focus on spec-in targets with regional OEM/ OES to drive short and mid-term growth by continuous development of new applications and early involvement in builds
  • Achieve planned sales and profitability objectives within established expense budgets
  • Document market dynamics such as decision-making, buyer behavior, channel and value chains.  Drive tesa processes to support the customer needs.
  • Gain a deep understanding of the needs and opportunities in the industry and assemble new product development business cases as well as ideas for M&A activities
  • Build network of engineers, stakeholders, and decision-makers within strategic end user accounts
  • Build network with select specialized channel partners
  • Identify assortment gaps and drive new product development initiatives
  • Effectively maintain customer data in tesa global CRM system
  • Collaborate internationally to ensure global support of regional customers where appropriate for the business objectives.
  • Key metrics include but are not limited to:  number of spec in projects monitored via CRM, sales development, tech day events, reference projects, customer satisfaction, quality, and service
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • Minimum 5 years combined experience in automotive sales and/or marketing required
  • Background with materials (glue, foam, films, tapes, plastics, injection-molded plastics/metals, printed coatings, plastics, etc.) strongly preferred. Experience working with battery manufacturers a plus
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with ability to influence complex organizational structures
  • Strong analytical skills / creative problem-solving capabilities.  Ability to navigate complex business negotiations and develop contracts/supply agreements
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license, passport, and physical ability to drive for lengthy periods
  • Skilled and proficient in use of computers to include but not limited to Microsoft products-Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint-as well as ability to use Customer Relationship Management software programs
  • Ability and willingness to adapt own work schedule to satisfy customer needs.  Must be available for air/auto travel up to 50% of the time
